The Draco was a Roman military standard carried by draconarius. The Draco was a standard of a cohort and was carried by each legionary cohort. The design is thought of to have derived from the Dacians or Parthians (two different types of ancient European/Asian people. The Draco also could have been used to show which direction the wind was blowing to help out the horse archers. Atop the staff was a hollow dragon head with a tube attached to the head flew like a serpent and whistled in the wind.
